Athletics Program at San Simon School

Extracurricular sports programs teach the important values of sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork. Our goal is to promote friendship, provide leadership opportunities and help students develop a positive attitude through athletic competition.

Mission Statement

The mission of the San Simon Athletics Department is to provide an athletics program that extends the learning experience beyond the classroom. The Indians athletics program strives to develop student-athletes socially, mentally and physically, and to encourage leadership, responsibility, teamwork and sportsmanship. The interaction between student-athletes on the playing fields teaches the value of teamwork and the use of proper competitive spirit. Good sportsmanship and fair play are developed in an atmosphere of mutual respect on and off the playing field.

Sports

San Simon Athletics is part of the Sonoran Desert League Conference. We invite students to participate in one or more of our after-school sports programs — it’s a great way to spend your time!

Eligibility

Extracurricular activities contribute to the positive climate and culture at our school. As such, we expect student-athletes to meet eligibility standards.

The eligibility criteria for student participation includes a passing grade in all classes in which the student is enrolled, and students must maintain progress toward promotion or graduation.  To monitor eligibility, we check grades every two weeks, progress reports and quarterly grade reports. In some instances, three weeks may pass due to 10-week grading periods. We will post an eligibility schedule/calendar before the beginning of each school year.

Athletics Standards

Participation in the San Simon athletics program is an honor and privilege for our students. Students who participate in athletics can develop their athletic abilities and leadership skills both on and off the playing field.

We expect our student-athletes to act in a dignified and mature manner. Athletes will learn to win with class and lose with dignity. They will respect their peers, coaches and teachers.

We recognize that actions reflect who we are. Our actions can majorly impact the entire team, school, community and especially the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Team Schedules

We’ll post team schedules as they become available.

Forms

Students must provide documentation of a physical exam dated within 12 months of participation.
